  13. You're stranded on an unfriendly alien planet, with the decidedly 
  14. unglamorous job of harvesting berries to feed hungry earthlings. 
  15. It's your task to protect the hydroponic gardens from mutant 
  16. frogs, alien probes, killer bees and other nasty creatures. Collect 
  17. enough food and maybe, just maybe, they'll let you come home.

  21. STARTING SPACE VEGETABLES
  22.  
  23. When you first load SPACE VEGETABLES, you will see the Options 
  24. menu. Type [2] to calibrate your joystick, if you are using one. Move 
  25. the joystick, up, down, left, and right, pressing the [FIRE] button after 
  26. each direction. When you return to the menu, press [1] to proceed. To 
  27. choose the type of graphics, press [1] for EGA or [2] for VGA. To 
  28. select a sound option, type [1] for PC speaker or [2] for Ad Lib or 
  29. Sound Blaster. To select an input device type [1] for keyboard, [2] for 
  30. digital joystick, or [3] for analog joystick.

  32. After you read the scrolling storyline (or anytime during), press the 
  33. spacebar or the [FIRE] button to go to the title screen. Press [FIRE] to go 
  34. to the quota screen. This screen tells you how many red, blue, green, 
  35. and yellow berries you must collect. Press [FIRE] to start the game.

  41. Below the main screen are three displays: SCORE, OXYGEN, and 
  42. QUOTA/TOTAL. When the OXYGEN meter drops all the way to 
  43. empty, your character will die and the game is over. QUOTA shows 
  44. the number of berries you need to collect, while TOTAL shows the 
  45. number of berries you have already collected.

  48. KEYBOARD & JOYSTICK CONTROLS
  49. If you're playing from the keyboard, use the arrow keys to move and 
  50. the spacebar to fire.

  52. To quit the game at any time, press [ESC] to return to the title screen. 
  53. Then press [ESC] again to return to DOS.

  57. Up arrow        Fly (Thrust)
  58. Down arrow      Open a dome
  59. [FIRE]          Shoot at aliens

  65. The domes which protect the growing plants can only be opened when 
  66. the fruit is ready for harvesting. If you wait too long, however, the fruit 
  67. will burst. On some levels aliens will try to steal the domes; if they 
  68. steal all of them before you make your quota, the game is over.

  70. You can shoot the aliens while flying or walking left or right. Some 
  71. aliens will release bubbles after you shoot them; grab these to increase 
  72. your oxygen level. Bonus points are awarded for oxygen left over after 
  73. you complete a level.
